Sriperumbudur, Tamil NaduSriperumbudur is located in Kanchipuram district in the Indian state of Tamil Nadu. It is an industrial city located close to Chennai. The city is known as the birthplace of Sri Ramanuja. He is one of the notable Hindu Vaishnava saints. The town is also known for being the town where the former Prime Minister Rajiv Gandhi was assassinated in 1991. The city has been rapidly developing due to infrastructural growth. Sriperumbudur was earlier known as Bhoodhapuri.

Speaking geologically the town of Sriperumbudur is a part of the Sriperumbudur Formation. It consists of argillaceous and arenaceous rock units including clays, splintery green shale and sandstones featuring ironstone intercalations.

Vallakottai Murugan Temple
Vallakottai Murugan temple is located at a distance of almost 9 km from Sriperumbudur. The place is famous for the tallest Lord Murugan statue that is the tallest in India. It is almost 9 m in height.

Sriperumbudur is the birthplace of Ramanuja. He is a famous saint and philosopher who played a prominent role for the Vaishnavism sect. a temple has been constructed where the divine idol of the saint was installed. The idol has been made of 5 metals like gold, bronze, silver, iron and copper. It is known as `Thamugantha Thirumani`

Madras Motor Sports Club
The Madras Motor Sports Club is known for organising every year outstanding racing events at Irungattukotai near Sriperumbudur. Some of the events organised here by the club are the Al India Motor Race Meet and the South India Rally.

Rajiv Gandhi Memorial
The Rajiv Gandhi Memorial located in Sriperumbudur is an important place to visit here. The former Indian Prime Minister Rajiv Gandhi was assassinated on 21st May 1991 in Sriperumbudur. The government has converted the spot of his assassination into Rajiv Gandhi Memorial.

Sriperumbudur is well connected with different modes of transport. It is located on the Chennai-Bengaluru highway. It is almost 40 kilometres away from the city. Tourists can avail busses that ply from different places for the town.
