Sri Yukteshwar was born in the year 1855 and his parents christened him with the name of Priya Nath Karan, during his birth. The most important contribution of Sri Yukteshwar to the Indian philosophy and spiritualism is his uncommon understanding of the nature of consciousness.
His disciples consider him as a `Gyanavatar` or an incarnation of wisdom. He got his first education about kriya yoga from his guru, the famous saint Shyama Charan Lahiri in his childhood and his guru authorized him to give the holy initiation to other people, at a later period. He was married off by his parents at a young age. After his wife passed away, he decided to enter the Swami order. From that time he dedicated his entire life to studying, learning and teaching spiritual thoughts and education among the common people.
He was associated with two ashrams in two different places, one in the city of Puri and the other one in Serampore. He has served the humanity through these two ashrams and has equally divided his time between the two ashrams. He has authored two books named as "The Holy Science" that he wrote in the year of 1894 and the other one is a commentary upon the first six chapters of the Bhagavad Gita.
