Sitong

Sitong is a beautiful hill station, enriched with diverse species of flora and fauna.

Sitong, Kurseong, West BengalSitong is amongst the virgin tourist destinations located in Kurseong, in the Indian state of West Bengal which is a storehouse of natural beauty. It contains the Lepcha village, which is a small village surrounded by some green mountains and rivulet or `khola`. Sitong is located about 4000 feet above sea level.

Riyang River, Bamboo Bridges, winding paths, orange orchards, Sitong church and Bamboo Monastery are the main attractions of Sitong among tourists. Visitors might opt for some long walks through the local villages of Sitong and engage in the activities of bird-watching and butterfly watching. Several trek routes originate from Sitong, which go to a variety of destinations through which visitors may get 360 ° view covering Dooars, Terai, Kurseong, Darjeeling, Kalimpong and Sikkim hills and some parts of Bhutan and Nepal.

Nearby Places of Sitong
Located at a distance of only 20 km, Mongpoo is another tourist attraction which boasts of the home of the noble laureate Rabindranath Tagore. Latpanchar is famous as it is the highest point in the Mahananda Wildlife Sanctuary and it is only 13 km from the main area of Sitong. Besides being the highest point, Latpanchar is also the natural habitat of the Himalayan Salamander and innumerable species of butterflies and birds. Dilaram, Bagora and Kurseong are also famous among tourists to visit, which is located at a distance of 20 km from Sitong. The village of Chatakpur is also present at a distance of just 30 km from this place.

Visiting Information to Sitong
Sitong should be visited in the months of November, December and January. Nearest railway station to reach Sitong is New Jalpaiguri (NJP) and nearest airport is Bagdogra. Direct cars are available from both rail station and airport. Shared jeep is available from Siliguri to Kurseong, from where tourists have to take another vehicle up to Sitong.
