Silahara dynasty of Konkan

The kings of Silahara dynasty are referred as the descendants of king Jimutavahana, who was a Kshatriya ruler. There were three branches of the Silaharas. The first branch ruled in South Konkan from 8th century to 12th century A.D. Goa was their capital. For some time, Kharepatana also remained as their capital. The second branch ruled from 9th century A. D. to the end of 13th century A. D. in North Konkan. They made Thana and Puri as their capital. The third branch established its rules in the 1lth century A.D. in Kolhapur, Satara and Belangrama. Kolhapur or Panhala was their capital. Some areas of the South Konkan was also included in their kingdom. King Vijayarka of this branch had helped Chalukya king Bijjaja. King Jhoja of this branch was a brave the powerful king. But after him, his kingdom was conquered and occupied by the Yadava. Kings of Silahara dynasty always remained as feudal rise of Chalukyas and Yadavas and always ruled as Samanta rulers. They could never establish their independent kingdom.
