Sharadindu Bandyopadhyay is a well known literary figure from West Bengal. He was seriously engaged with Bengali Film Industry as well as with Bollywood. One of his immortal creations is the fictional detective named Byomkesh Bakshi. He penned down various forms of prose like short stories, novels, plays and screenplays. But his strength was in writing engaging novels and short stories. Throughout his life his literary creations were mainly historical fictions like Kaaler mandiraa, Chua-chandan, GouRo mollar Tumi sandhyara megh, Tungabhadraar Teere (all novels), Maru o sangha (later made into a Hindi film named Trishangni) and stories of the unnatural with the persistent character Barada.
Personal Life of Sharadindu Bandyopadhyay
Sharadindu Bandyopadhyay was born on 30th March 1899 to Tarabhushan and Bijaliprabha Bandyopadhyay at Jaunpur in Uttar Pradesh, India. In the year 1915 he passed the matriculation examination and got himself admitted to Vidyasagar College in Kolkata. And it was here, at the age of 20, that his first literary work got published; a collection of poem, named Jaubansmriti. In 1919, he passed his B.A examinations and then went to Patna to study law. After his law, he solely and completely devoted all his time to writing.
Career of Sharadindu Bandyopadhyay
Sharadindhu Bandyopadhyay`s most popular work is his creation of super sleuth Byomkesh Bakshi. The first appearance of Byomkesh Bakshi happened in the year 1932. Raktasandhya, one of his earlier stories, published in Bengali in 1939.
In the year 1938, Sharadindhu Bandyopadhyay shifted base to Mumbai to write screenplays for Hindi Films. He started to write screenplays for Bombay Talkies and for other film banners as well. Later, in 1952, he cancelled all ties with the film industry in Mumbai and moved to Pune to concentrate purely on literature and writing. During his stay in Pune he wrote several stories based on ghosts, spirituality, romance and also interesting tales for children. He died on 1970 in Pune.

Awards and Achievements by Sharadindu Bandyopadhyay
Sharadindu received the Rabindra Puraskar in 1967 for the novel Tungabhadrar Tirey. University of Calcutta too, in 1967, honoured him with the Sarat Smriti Purashkar.
