Geography of Assam
Assam is one of the eight states in the Northeastern part of India. It is comprised mostly of the valleys of Brahmaputra River and Barak. Assam is connected to the rest of the country via the Siliguri Corridor or the Chicken`s Neck, which is a 22-kilometre small strip of land in West Bengal. Assam is also known as the "Gateway to the Northeast, as it is the main connection to reach the other states in the Northeastern part of the country. The Brahmaputra River runs for 1800 miles from its source in the Tibetan Himalayas to its delta in the Bay of Bengal through Assam.

The cruises in Assam will make one to enjoy many interesting experiences. The luxury river cruise offers wildlife viewing and bird watching to the travelers. The cruise also offers a glimpse of the varied colourful ethnic mix of the state in addition to the neo-classical colonial palaces, Buddhist archaeology, Hindu temples and Islamic architecture.

The cruises on the Brahmaputra River are offered both by Assam Tourism and by some private tour operators. Some of these operate small tours along Guwahati city while some operators offer luxury services to Kaziranga National Park and beyond the rubber plantation area. The cruises also cover a World Heritage Site and Majuli, which is one of the largest riverine islands in the world. Apart from the mentioned ones, the cruises also offer village walks, visits to tea gardens, barbecues on deserted river islands, dance performances, exploring country towns and visits to craft workshops to the tourists.
