Many of the temples were built in ancient times which have still retained their beauty and sanctity. Apart from temples, churches also stand in the town which in addition to being the religious centre of Christians also serve as famous tourist sites.

Ranchi Hill and Pahari Mandir
Ranchi Hill and Pahari Mandir is one of the prominent landmarks of Ranchi. Atop the hill a temple is situated, dedicated to Lord Shiva, also known as Pahari Mandir. At the foot of the hill, Ranchi Lake is there. It was excavated in 1842 by Colonel Onsely.

Jagannath Temple
Jagannath temple is situated at about 10 kilometres away from the town of Ranchi. It was constructed in the year 1691 and possesses a stark similarity with the architecture of Puri temple. The temple was built by Thakur Ani Nath Shahdeo who belongs to Barkagarh Jagannathpur. Grand Ratha Yatra is organized every year, similar to Puri.

Sun Temple
Sun Temple is another famous temple of Ranchi situated at a distance of about 40 kilometres from the town. The structure of the temple resembles a chariot having 18 wheels and drawn by 7 white horses. A pond surrounds the temple where the devotees perform the worship of Sun during Chhath Puja.

Angrabari (Amreshwar Dham)
Angrabari is located about 40 kilometres away from the town of Ranchi. The presiding deities of the temple are Lord Shiva, Lord Rama, Lord Ganesha, Lord Hanuman and Sita. Enthralled by the serene and celestial beauty of the place Shankracharya Swami Swarupanand Saraswati renamed it as Amreshwar Dham.

Devri Temple
Devri Temple is situated on the Ranchi-Tata highway (NH33), about 60 kilometres away from Ranchi. The temple is dedicated to Solha Bhuji Goddess Durga. The temple is famous in Jharkhand as the only temple in the state where along with the traditional Brhamins, tribal priests known as Pahans, also perform the religious rituals.

GEL Church
GEL Church or the Gossner Evangelical Lutheran Church was built in Ranchi in November 1845. It is a significant religious place for the Christian residents of the town.

Religious Places in Ranchi also attracts a number of tourists from different regions. They also serve as important landmarks of the town.
