The Pandavkada Falls is located in Kharghar, a suburb of Navi Mumbai in the Raigad district of the Indian state of Maharashtra. The waterfall stands at a height of 107 m and is a plunge type of waterfall.
History of Pandavkada Falls
The name of the waterfalls is derived from the Pandavas of the Hindu epic Mahabharata. It is said they once visited the place for a bath during their time of exile and within the Pandavkada, there is a big tunnel from where the Pandavas had come.
Current Scenario of Pandavkada Falls
Due to past accidents, the Pandavkada Falls has been declared as a dangerous spot by the City and Industrial Development Corporation of Maharashtra (CIDCO). In 2010, about 12 students had lost their lives while swimming in the waterfall. And 5 years prior that, in 2005, 4 students had drowned in the waterfall and a ban was imposed but it was lifted long ago by the forest department. Currently, tourists can visit the Pandavkada Falls but at their own risk.
Visiting Information on Pandavakada Falls
The best time to visit the waterfall is between the months of June till early September. The Pandavkada Falls is easily accessible with the Khargarh railway station being the nearest at a distance of 9 km. The Chhatrapati Shivaji International Airport is the closest at a distance of 36 km from the falls.
