anambur Beach is situated along the Arabian Sea in the Dakshina Kannada district of the south Indian state of Karnataka. It is the place where New Mangalore Port is located. It lies towards the north of the Gurupura River and 10 kilometers away from Mangalore city. The name of the place has been derived from the words `Panam` which refers to money and `Ur` which means a village in Tulu language. The place houses the Nandaneshwara temple. New Mangalore Port Trust at Panambur
At Panambur, New Mangalore Port Trust operates the deep-water, all-weather port. It is credited as the only major port of the state and the ninth largest port of the country. 4th May 1974 marks the inauguration of the Trust by the then Prime Minister of India Indira Gandhi. Its construction started in the year 1962. The port, known as New Mangalore Port, is located towards the north of the place where the Arabian Sea meets the Gurupura River. Towards its south lies the old harbour which is presently used for ferrying small goods and fishing. New Mangalore Port exports several commodities such as containerized cargo, cashew, coffee, granite stones, manganese, iron ore fines, iron ore concentrates and pellets. The products imported to the port include liquid chemicals, phosphoric acid, liquid ammonia, finished fertilizers, timber logs, wood pulp, LPG and petroleum products.
