Mukul Balkrishna Wasnik was the Minister for Social Justice and Empowerment in the government of United Progressive Alliance (UPA) headed by the former Prime Minister of India, Dr. Manmohan Singh. Mukul Balkrishna Wasnik represents the Ramtek constituency of Maharashtra. He is the General Secretary of the All India Congress Committee.

Earlier Mukul Balkrishna Wasnik represented Buldhana, a Lok Sabha constituency of Maharashtra. He represented from Buldhana, Lok Sabha during 1998-1999, 10th Lok Sabha during 1991-1996 and 8th Lok Sabha during 1984-1989. Mukul Balkrishna Wasnik was National President of National Students Union of India during 1984-1986. Mukual Wasnik was President of Indian Youth Congress during 1988-1990.
