Malik Khizar Hayat Tiwana
Malik Khizar Hayat Tiwana was the Punjab Unionist Party Premier of the Punjab during the period of 1942 to 1947. He was commissioned to the 17th Cavalry in the year 1918.

Malik Khizar Hayat Tiwana, Indian PoliticianMalik Khizar Hayat Tiwana, also known as Nawabzada Sir Malik Khizar Hayat Tiwana, was the Punjab Unionist Party Premier of the Punjab during the period of 1942 to 1947. The Unionist Party of Punjab, also known as the Unionist Muslim League was an Indian political party that was established in the province of Punjab during the era of the British rule. Khizar Hayat Tiwana was born in the year 1900 and belonged to the Tiwana Rajput family that had been significant amongst the landed aristocracy of the Punjab since the 16th century AD. Major General Sir Malik Umar Hayat Khan Tiwana, his father, acted as honorary aide-de-camp to George V and George VI. He also became a member of the Council of the Secretary of State for India and served from the year 1924 to 1934. Malik Khizar Hayat Tiwana received his education from the Aitchison College in Lahore. He volunteered for war service when he was merely 16 years old and was commissioned to the 17th Cavalry in the year 1918. Initially Tiwana served during the First World War for a brief period and later briefly served in the Afghan campaign. This earned him a mention in dispatches.

Nawabzada Sir Malik Khizar Hayat Tiwana later supported his father in the supervision of the family estates in the Punjab. He took responsibility for the estate during his father`s visit to London from 1929 to 1934. In the year 1937, Tiwana was elected to the Punjab Legislative Assembly and instantly joined as the Minister of Public Works in the cabinet of Sir Sikandar Hayat Khan. Sir Sikandar effectively led the Unionist Muslim League in the election as Minister of Public Works. Tiwana served in this position until the year 1942. Later he succeeded Sir Sikander Hayat Khan as the Prime Minister of the Punjab and served in office from the year 1942 until 194 7.

Malik Khizar Hayat Tiwana also became a member of the Indian delegation to the Paris Peace Conference in the year 1946. He resigned from his premiership of the Punjab Unionist Party on 2nd March 1947. He stayed in Shimla until the country achieved independence from the rule of the British Empire in India. Eventually he retired from active politics and went to Pakistan in October 1949. Nawabzada Sir Malik Khizar Hayat Tiwana died in the year 1975.
