Madhumita Roy was born to a musical family and was a musical prodigy. During the early years she was nurtured under Late Pt. Ramgopal Mishra in Jaipur. As she grew up she got herself admitted to PADATIK, Kolkata, and received training under Pt. Vijay Shankar in Lucknow Gharana. Later on, she took training for Kathak under Pt. Birju Maharaj at Delhi. Her performances have been liked and appreciated by all and sundry. Madhumita is a M.A. in Philosophy from University of Calcutta. At present she is working in Padatik Dance Centre, Kolkata as a senior teacher. She is also the dance director at Ghungroo (a centre for Kathak dance)
She has travelled widely across the country and around the world and performed in many places both at home and aboard. Dover Lane Music Conference (Kolkata), Ghungroo Festival (Bhopal), Indore, Jaipur, Chennai, Ahmedabad, Lucknow, Jammu Festival (Jammu) ONGC (Dehradun), Mumbai, Sarachhandrika Festival & Kathak Mahotsav (New Delhi), Sangeet Natak Academy`s Youth Festival (Delhi), Nupur Festival (Bangalore), Soorya & "Nisha Gandhi" Festival (Trivandrum), Konark Festival (Orissa), Sankat Mochan and Ganga Mahotsav in Benaras etc.

* In 2008 she performed in "Festival of India" held at Egypt and Argentina along with Italy and Chiles as an artiste of I.C.C.R. (Delhi).
* In 2006 she performed at International Kathak Festival and symposium was held at San Francisco, U.S.A.
* In 2005 she performed in Mongolia as an artiste of I.C.C.R., New Delhi.
* In 2000 she performed in U.K
* In 1994 & 1997 she performed in U.S.A., Canada, Italy, Spain
* In 1997 she also performed in China as a soloist in the celebration of 50th year of India`s Independence, an artiste recommended by I.C.C.R., New Delhi
* In 1991 she performed in the Festival of India held at Germany as an artiste of I.C.C.R., New Delhi.
* In 1989 she performed in Kuopio Dance Festival held at Finland and Norway.
