Before venturing into the field of music direction, Loy Mendonsa used to play keyboards and piano for eminent music composers of the Indian film industry such as Nadeem Shravan and A. R. Rahman. Alyssa Mendonsa, his daughter, has also ventured into the music industry and made her singing debut with the song `Uff Teri Adaa` for the movie Karthik Calling Karthik.

Career of Loy Mendonsa
Loy Mendonsa began his music career with the compositions of the signature tune for The World This Week show which was aired on Doordarshan. During this period, he used to dwell in Delhi. In the year 1989 he collaborated with Ehsaan Noorani and together they composed a number of advertisement jingles. Later, Shankar Mahadevan also joined their group in the late 1990s. Loy Mendonsa, as a part of the musical trio Shankar Ehsaan Loy, gained huge acclamations in the Hindi film industry for their magical compositions. Music album Rockford marked their first joint venture as music composers whereas in films they made their debut with the Tamil movie Aalavanthan. Farhan Akhtar`s debut directional venture Dil Chahta Hai was the turning point for Shankar Ehsaan Loy which apart from rendering them recognition in the film industry marked the beginning of their success story. Songs like `Jaane Kyun Log` and `Jise Dhhondhta Hai` became chartbusters. Following the success of Dil Chahta Hai the trio shot to fame and delivered some of the most magical renditions of all time to the Hindi films and won a number of esteemed awards. Their fame in the music industry continued with films like Kal Ho Na Ho, Bunty aur Babli, Lakshya, Salaam-e-Ishq, Wake Up Sid, Luck By Chance, My Name Is Khan, Patiala House, Zindagi Na Milegi Dobara, Bhaag Milkha Bhaag and many more.

Achievements of Loy Mendonsa
Loy Mendonsa won a number of awards as a part of the trio for brilliant music compositions. They won prestigious awards like IIFA Awards, Filmfare Awards, Screen Awards and Zee Cine Awards. Shankar Ehsaan Loy also won the esteemed National Film Award for Best Music Direction for the movie Kal Ho Na Ho.
