Longinus Fernandes is an Indian choreographer and dancer who is recognized for choreographing the Academy Award winning song ‘Jai Ho’ from Slumdog Millionaire. He has also appeared in dance reality shows on Indian television.

Longinus Fernandes, Indian ChoreographerLonginus Fernandes is a prominent name in the arena of dance and Indian choreography. He began as an assistant choreographer and soon earned recognition as an excellent choreographer. He garnered international fame for choreographing the closing credits dance sequence featuring Academy Award for Best Original Song winning song `Jai Ho` from the movie Slumdog Millionaire. He has also appeared in dance based television reality shows which added to his prominence in the celluloid. He has choreographed some of the most popular dance sequences in numerous Hindi films.

Career of Longinus Fernandes
Longinus Fernandes began his career in the early 1990s as a dancer in the Hindi film industry. Subsequently he started working as an assistant choreographer in popular films. His works shone gradually and in the year 1995 he bagged an independent project as a choreographer. He crafted dance sequences for the film Dil Ka Doctor. Following this he worked as a choreographer in a number of movies like Border, Sarfarosh, Moksha, Deewaanapan, Kucch To Hai, Dil Vil Pyar Vyar, Dil Hai Tumhaara, Corporate and many more. However Longinus Fernandes gained recognition in the entertainment world with his participation in the reality dance competition, Jhalak Dikhhla Jaa (Season 1) which was aired on Sony TV in the year 2006. In the show his partner was television actress Shweta Salve and the couple became the runners up. In the year 2008 he judged a reality dance competition Saas v/s Bahu, aired on Sahara One channel.

Longinus Fernandes, Indian Choreographer Longinus Fernandes has also choreographed music videos such as Adnan Sami`s Lift Kara De and Baba Sehgal`s Balle Balle Ho Gai. He was also the choreographer for the movie Slumdog Millionaire in which he crafted dance sequences for the songs `Jai Ho` and `O... Saya`. The songs were shot at Lion`s Gate, Essel World and the CST station in Mumbai along with an array of dancers. For the three consecutive years, 2009, 2010 and 2011, he has worked as a choreographer for the opening of `So You Think You Can Dance-Canada`. Other Bollywood films in which he has worked as a choreographer include Jaane Tu Ya Jaane Na, Guzaarish, My Friend Pinto, Barfi, Jayantabhai Ki Luv Story, Saheb, Biwi Aur Gangster Returns and others.

Achievements of Longinus Fernandes
Longinus Fernandes won the Filmfare Best Choreography Award in the year 2009 for choreographing the song "Pappu Can`t Dance Saala" from the movie Jaane Tu Ya Jaane Na. In the same year he also received Fred Astaire Award Best Film Choreography in New York for choreographing the song "Jai Ho" in Slumdog Millionaire.
