Lipa-Asrang Sanctuary is a spectacular wildlife sanctuary which is existent at an altitude of nearly 4,000 to 5,022 meters above sea level, in Kinnaur District near Moorang town, Himachal Pradesh. The area of the sanctuary was officially marked as a sanctuary in the year 1962 and re-notified during 27th March, 1974. Occupying an area measuring about 30.9 square kilometres, Lipa-Asrang Sanctuary is bordered by snow-capped mountain ranges which enhance the natural charm and tranquillity of its ambience. This wildlife reserve is amongst the scanty number of sanctuaries where yak has been observed, and a portion of it is covered with deserted, cold desert, present on a large plateau. It is said to be the perfect holiday getaway for nature and solitude lovers.
Flora of Lipa-Asrang Sanctuary
Various kinds of lush forests are present inside Lipa-Asrang Sanctuary, some of which are similar to those located in the Lower Western Himalayan Temperate Forests and also Upper Western Himalayan Temperate Forests. Dry Broad-Leafed Forests, Kharsu Oak Forests, Dry Alpine Scrub, Dry Coniferous Forests and Dwarf Juniper Scrubs are some of the other dense forests which thrive here.
Fauna of Lipa-Asrang Sanctuary
Lipa-Asrang Sanctuary provides shelter to a large quantity of wild animals which are a treat to the eyes of wildlife enthusiasts and even wildlife photographers. Certain threatened species of animals have been preserved in the sanctuary which includes Brown Bear, Leopard, Musk Deer, Goral, Ibex and birds like Himalayan Snowcock and Himalayan Monal. Yak, Blue Sheep and Himalayan Black Bear are a few of the many other wild creatures which dwell inside the premises of Lipa-Asrang Sanctuary.
The ideal time for visitors who are interested in visiting this famous wildlife sanctuary is between the months or April and October. The area of this place is flat, resembling a great plateau.
