Leken Dance

Leken Dance is a famous and popular dance of the Assam state of India. It gives a picture of the creation of the Universe through its gestures and body movements. In this dance, the waist is moved in a circular manner illustrating the movement of the Earth. From beginning to end, this circular movement of the dancer tries to point towards the creation of a round world.

Performance of Leken Dance
The performance of Leken dance comprises of interesting intricate leg movements. While performing, the dancer stands on his toe of one of the legs in between the dance. This position puts across the thought that the Universe is not resting on any solid object but is continually rotating on empty space. In the Leken dance, the performer shows the splitting up of the void space with suitable hand gestures and movements.
