Khariar is located in the Nuapada District of the state of Odisha.

Geography of Khariar
Khariar is located at 20.28°N 82.77°E. It has an average elevation of 226 m (741 ft). It is located in the Western part of Odisha, close to the border of Raipur District of Chhattisgarh State. It belongs to the Mahanadi River basin the Eastern Ghats Mountain Range in India where mountains are interspersed with wide valleys. The elevation is about 200 meters. The climate is tropical with the rainfall is due to the South West monsoon, There are few government and private schools and colleges in the region.

Climate of Khariar
As it has been pointed out Khariar has been regarded to be quite backward. Since this town falls under the `rain shadow belt` it is deprived of getting rainfall, which is sufficient enough for producing good quality crops. Strategically, Khariar has been situated in the western portion of Odisha state, lying in close vicinity of the district of Raipur of another state of India, namely Chattisgarh. The Khariar residents enjoy tropical climate where rainfall occurs under the impact of South West monsoon.
