Katyayani Baneshwar Temple is a Hindu Konkani temple located in the coastal town of Aversa near Ankola, in the Uttara Kannada district of Karnataka.
Katyayani Baneshwar Temple is located at around 100 km from Goa from Bengaluru. This is the only temple from Goa, to be relocated to Aversa with all the original idols of the main deities of Goddess Katyayani, Lord Baneshwar and all other temple deities during the Portuguese invasion. The idol of Goddess Katyayani is known for having a tilted head just as the Navadurga Devi located in Madkai.
The Taluka headquarters at Ankola is at 10 km away and district headquarters in Karwar District. It is located at a distance of 25 km from the Katyayani Baneshwar Temple.
Lord Katyayani is the family Hindu deity to many Konkani Saraswat Brahmins and Daivajnya Brahmins. According to the customs of the Katyayani Baneshwar Temple, Puja is performed first to Lord Katyayani and then to Lord Baneshwar and then to Lord Ganesha.
Other Hindu deities worshipped in Katyayani Baneshwar Temple are Sri Grama Purusha, Sri Rama Purusha, Sri Nirakara, Sri Kalabhairava and Sri Dada. The idol of Sri Ganapathi is at the entrance of the shrine of Lord Baneshwar. The complex of the temple is run on solar energy.
