From that time, Karwar beach was the sea trade centre from the Arabian Sea. Earlier the Arabs, Dutch East India Company, Portuguese East India Company, French East India Company traded here.

In Arabic, Karwar was called "Baithkhol" with a meaning Bay of Safety. The Mughal Explorer Ibn battuta passed through this tract. Many Indian commodities exported to foreign countries were brought from the Deccan by this route as this port was considered safe during all seasons.

With its unadulterated tranquillity, Karwar Beach is an ideal picnic spot in Karnataka. It has all the ingredients that make a perfect outing in weekend. The soft waves, palm trees on the fringes of the beach and silver sand make the ideal ambience for the nature lovers.
