Kanji Wildlife Sanctuary is a lesser known wildlife sanctuary of Jammu and Kashmir, is set on the rough geographical location. The dusty plateau, blizzard, and the conifers attract the trekkers. An ideal spot to trek, covers 250sq.km of the rough and undulating mountainous landscape of the Kanji River Valley
This sanctuary was set up to protect the endangered animals, located in the Kargil and Leh districts of Jammu and Kashmir the condition in the remote Kanji Wildlife Sanctuary are jagged and standoffish, with bitter cold and arid climate combined with rocky landscape.
This wildlife abode is also covering around 100 sq km of Kanji River in Ladakh. This was gazetted as the `Kanji Wildlife Sanctuary` in 1981. After that, this sanctuary was attached to the wildlife section of Kargil of Jammu and Kashmir.
Kanji Wildlife Sanctuary is the eternal abode of north Indian birds. Chakur Partridge and the Himalayan Snow Cock are the inhabitants of this wildlife sanctuary. There is sparse avifauna in Kanji valley accredited to the meager plant life restricted to arid shrubs and all the birdlife is restricted to the deciduous flora along the river. Snow Leopard is the most significant mammal in the Kanji Sanctuary. The cradle of the arid mountain tents the wild goats like Ibex, Urial, Yaks and Long-tailed Marmot.

The nearest airports are at Kargil and Leh at 120 km from Kanji Wild Life Sanctuary. Srinagar Airport is the accessible way. The nearest railway station is Jammu, situated at a distance of 306 km from Leh and 236 km from Kargil.
