Kalyangad Fort, also known as Nandgiri, is located in Satara District of Maharashtra near Mahadev Range. The fort is situated at an elevation of 3,537 feet above mean sea level. According to historians, the fort was built by the Silahara king Bhoj II of Panhala. In 1673, Kalyangad Fort, along with other Satara forts, was surrendered to Shivaji Maharaj. The Pratinidhi administered the fort until Shivaji"s struggle with Bajirao. In the last Maratha war, the fort fell to the army of General Pritzler in April 1818. In 1862, it was announced as a dismantled and uninhabited fort with a strong gateway, but no water supplies. Kalyangad Fort was the headquarters of an administrative sub-division with a treasury and had an establishment of a mamlatdar, phadnis, sabnis, havaldar and daffedar, two karkuns, three naiks, and 160 sepoys.

The fort has two gateways connects by steps. There is a cave pond facing east, which is called Gavi. The fort walls are almost in ruins. There is only one building inside the fort campus, which is the temple of Lord Maruti along with the idols of Dattatraya and Parasnath. The temple of Maruti was once renovated by Dahanebuva of Ninapadali. The tomb of Abdul Karim, a Muslim Saint, inside the fort is still visited by many people. A Urus is held in his honor for five days in the fort.

Satara Railway Station and Karad Airport are the nearest to visit the fort. National Highway 16 and 65 connect Satara District to other parts of India.
