In the 2001 census, Kakdwip CD Block had a population of 239,381 out of which 122,792 were males and 116,589 were females. The place is famous for Yogiraj Shyamacharan Sanatan Mission for the spreading and preservation of Kriya yoga of Lahiri Mahasaya worldwide. This temple is locally known as `Yogiraj Mission`. The institute campus also hosts a temple of Lahiri Mahasaya. A river boat journey for 45 minutes will allure one several times to go to Kakdwip. It is a treat to every one in the cool summers and the warm winter boat journey on Barkul River, which is one of the distributaries of Hughly River of West Bengal.
Visiting Information
Kakdwip is easily accessible with both bus and trains. No express are plying from Howrah and Sealdah Railway Station. Only single lined local trains are the most important transportation system in this region. The buses are plying from Esplanade and Taratala to reach Bakkhali and Kakdwip. Kakdwip Station is a well maintained railway station, as it is the connecting point to Gangasagar or Sagar Island.
