Kachhua Sanctuary is a tortoise sanctuary in Varanasi. This sanctuary has rare species of tortoise and other aquatic animals.

Kachhua Sanctuary, Varanasi, Uttar PradeshKachhua Sanctuary is one of the most significant tourist spot in Uttar Pradesh. It is located in the busy city of Varanasi, located at about 8 kilometres from Varanasi Railway Station.

In this Kachhua Sanctuary, there are different species of tortoise, dolphin of the Ganga River and other water animals, which can be found here.

In the Kachhua Sanctuary, there are many tortoise species like Aspederites Gangetic Tortoise, Geoclamis, Hamiltonai, Chitra Indica or Soft Shelled Turtle and Lasimous which are carnivorous species and hard-shelled herbivorous tortoise- Pechra, Kachhua, Sundri Kachhua, Kachhua Tentoria, Kachhua Tongoka are in abundance.

Some of the fishes like Rohu, Bhakur, Tengra, Prawn, Nain, Bam etc. fish are also found in the Sanctuary. Gangetic dolphin can also be seen especially during rainy season here. Tortoise and all other aquatic species are protected and efforts are being made to increase their population in this sanctuary. Fishing & any attempt to temper with the habitat of the animals found in the Kachhua Sanctuary.
