Jogimara Caves, Sarguja, ChattisgarhJogimara caves are situated at Amarnath near the region of Narmada in sarguja , v state. These 10 ft X 6 ft X 6ft caves are on the Ramgarh hills. Back in 300 B.C. the caves were painted colors with the picture of animals, birds, human being and flowers. These works of art here are painted on the white base plaster by line drawings using mainly red, black, white and yellow colors. Each painting has a red outline. There doesn`t seem to be any religious theme to these paintings. However, these paintings seem to be among the first few early missions towards paintings by human beings.

On the root of the caves, there are seven paintings of human fish and elephant figures. They could be explained like a painting of a person are sitting under a tree. A dancing couple is painted near a painted lily flower. A Painting of a doll like image. A painting of singers and dancers with a female dancer. This painting is like sculptures and paintings at Ajanta and a couple of chariot painting which are not clear anymore. These paintings are considered as the oldest surviving paintings in Madhya Pradesh.

There are certain inscriptions on the walls of Jogimara Caves. These inscriptions are the messages of love and could be counted as world`s first documented messages of love. The inscriptions are faded by now but whatever the message is legible tells us a story of the intense love between Sutnuka and Devdutta. According to some archaeological research Devdutta used to watch his beloved Sutnuka dancing in the theatre. It is believed by archaeologists that this story could be the root of the Devdasi concept.
