Jevargi is situated on the banks of Bhima River, Jevargi is a panchayat town in the Gulbarga district of the southern state of India, Karnataka. The place is renowned for its Jain temples and is located in the south of Gulbarga at a distance of 40 km. Andola is located at a distance of 10 km from Jevargi. Wadi is an industrial town, in the east of Jevargi. The nearest railhead is the Wadi Railway Station. The Jevargi-Bijapur Road, which links Bijapur to Gulbarga, passes through this town. Geographically, Jewargi is located between 17.02A, North latitude and 76.77 degree East longitude at a height of 393 metres (1289 feet) above mean sea level.
Jevargi is surrounded by the Gulbarga taluk of Gulbarga district in the north, Chitapur taluk of Gulbarga district to the east, Shahpur taluk of Gulbarga distict to the southeast, Shorapur taluk of Gulbarga district to the south and Sindi taluk of Bijapur district to the west.
As per the India census report published in 2001, Jevargi had a population of 19,174. Males constitute 51% of the population and females account for 49% of the population. In Jevargi, 17% of the population is less han six years of age. The census report also throws light on the literacy rate of the town which is 53%. This is lower than the national average literacy rate which is 59.5%. Out of it, the male literacy rate is 63% and the female literacy rate is 43%.
Devotees flock to this town throughout the year because it is an important pilgrimage site for the Jains. Kollur, situated 10 km. from Jevargi houses the Sidda Basaweshwara Temple which is famous for its Ugadi celebrations.
