Jatinga is a village on a ridge located in the Dima Hasao District of Assam. It is 330 km south of Guwahati. This village is famous for the phenomenon of birds "committing suicide". Although the birds do not commit suicide and are actually killed, the myth of the suicides has spread far among common people. Various studies have been done to reveal the cause of this phenomenon. According to the records, around 44 species of birds got hit by bamboos as they got attracted to the light of the village. During the foggy conditions without any natural lights, the birds got dazed and hit by the bamboo poles. The poles were erected by the villagers who feared that these birds were actually spirits of the dead that wished to harm them. So as to protect themselves, they tried to catch the birds with the bamboo poles which lead to the death of the birds. Jatinga is inhabited by about 2,500 Khasi-pnar tribal people and few Assamese. It also has a bird watching center.

Jatinga is 9 km from Haflong, so Jatinga can easily be reached by vehicle from Haflong. Nearest railhead to Jatinga is Lumding Junction (140 km). Nearest airports are Rowraiah Airport (394 km) and Guwahati Airport (369 km). National Highway 27 connects Jatinga to other parts of Assam.
