Jasmergarh Fort

Jasmergarh Fort is located in Kathua District of Jammu and Kashmir. It was built by King Hira Singh, after whom Hiranagar town was named.

It was built by the King Hira Singh, son of Raja Dhyan Singh. The town Hiranagar was named after the King Hira Singh. Jasmergarh Fort houses a sanctum sanctorum of Goddess Kali. According to the legends, the temple was built by Raja Hari Singh. The fort also housed government offices before 1947; later the offices were moved to Hiranagar.

History of Jasmergarh Fort
Jasmergarh Fort is the only remnant of the Dogra Kingdom. Earlier the fort was used as a prison for political prisoners during early 19th century. But later the prison was shifted from there because the devotees coming for the Kali temple had to face several restrictions.

Visiting Information to Jasmergarh Fort
Hiranagar Railway Station and Jammu Airport are the nearest to visit the fort. National Highway 19 connects Hiranagar town to other major cities of India.
