Hemagudda Fort

Hemagudda Fort was constructed during the 14th century. It is located in the village of Hemagudda in Gangavathi taluka in the district of Koppal district in Karnataka state.

It is situated almost 4 km towards the north of Kummatadurga Fort and is almost is 12 km from Gangavathi. The geographical coordinates are latitude 15°26`1?N and longitude 76°23`24?E. The fort of Hemagudda was constructed during the 14th century.

History of Hemagudda Fort
The fortress was primarily occupied by the Palegar Dynasty of the Kanakagiri kingdom who reigned over the territory from 15th century to 18th century. The structure is located in high rocky hills and is thus well camouflaged. The architecture of the fort is such that the building can be entered only through the gateway in the east. Hemagudda Fort was mainly used by the Palegar rulers as a fortified post and a refuge during attacks of the enemy forces.

There are several temples inside the Hemgudda fort, such as Kanakachala temple, Shiva Parvati temple, temple of Goddess Durga and Lakshmi Narasimha temple. The Dussehra festival is grandly celebrated in the Durga temple in the fort.
