Haradhan Bandopadhyay was a noted Indian actor who gained applauses in both Bengali as well as Bollywood films. He also had an active participation in the Indian freedom movement.

Haradhan Bandopadhyay, Bengali movie ActorHaradhan Bandopadhyay was a celebrated Indian actor who appeared primarily in Bengali film and television shows. However his recognition also extended to the Hindi film industry as he enacted in a few Bollywod flicks. Bengali movie Devdut marked the beginning of his acting career which was followed by numerous offers and appreciations. His accomplished acting skills had also earned him several accolades. Haradhan Bandopadhyay had worked with some of the eminent directors of Bengali film industry including Mrinal Sen and Satyajit Ray.

Early Life of Haradhan Bandopadhyay
Haradhan Bandopadhyay was born on 6th November 1926. He did his schooling from Kushtia Municipal School in Bangladesh and passed the matriculation in 1944. He completed his IA exam from City College, Kolkata, affiliated form the University of Calcutta in the year 1946. Subsequently, he worked in Gun and Shell factory. He joined an insurance company in 1946 and continued with his job there till his retirement. Haradhan Bandopadhyay also actively participated in freedom struggle movement of India for which he was even sent to jail.

Career of Haradhan Bandopadhyay
Haradhan Bandopadhyay made his cinematic debut in the year 1948 with the movie Devdut under the direction of Atanu Bandopadhay. Afterwards he worked in a number of Bengali films including Michael Madhusudhan, Pandit Mashai, Mahanagar, Kapurush, Akash Kusum, Sonar Kella, Joi Baba Felunath and many more. His Bollywood films include Parineeta and Barfi! Apart from films, he had also worked in various television shows. Haradhan Bandopadhyay was also a prominent thespian who had acted in several plays with famed stage actors such as Utpal Dutta, Chhabi Biswas and Ahindra Choudhury.

Death of Haradhan Bandopadhyay
Haradhan Bandopadhyay died at the age of 86 on 5th January 2013. He was suffering from pneumonia and died after 15 days of being admitted in the hospital. He is survived by a wife and two sons.

Achievements of Haradhan Bandopadhyay
Haradhan Bandopadhyay has been honoured with several awards for his notable contribution in the entertainment world. He had received Best Stage Artist Award by Ulto Rath Magazine in 1961, National Film Award for Best Supporting Actor in 2005, Banga-Vibhushan by Government of West Bengal in 2011 and Kalakar Awards.
