Gumti Wildlife Sanctuary is a delightful wildlife refuge located in the South Tripura district of the Indian state Tripura. It encompasses an area of 389.54 square kilometres and lies adjacent to a vast and sparkling water reservoir which covers an area of about 300 square kilometres. The lake beautifully adorns the landscape of the sanctuary and also serves as a refuge of a huge variety of native as well as migratory birds which hail from Europe during chilly winters. Rich diversity of flora and fauna can be spotted here. Nestled in the jungle-clad terrains of Tripura the place exhibits the rich natural heritage of the state which includes the vivacious wildlife and vibrant fauna of the region. Dazzling water streams meanders through the sanctuary creating a spectacular view. During summers the sanctuary has a hot and humid climate while during winters the weather remains quite pleasant. Located in the south east corner of the state, it is the second wildlife sanctuary of the district.
Flora and Fauna of Gumti Wildlife Sanctuary
Gumti Wildlife Sanctuary has a rich diversity of flora and includes several species of plants having medicinal and therapeutic value, in abundance. Multicoloured flora of the forest augments the horticultural value. Numerous orchids grow dotting the beautiful landscape of Gumti Wildlife Sanctuary. It shelters a vast variety of reptiles in the marshy areas and regions having quicksand. Apart from these other commonly found fauna of the region include Wild Goat, Barking Deer, Sambhar, Bison, Elephants and many more. A number of marine birds also flock around the sanctuary which takes shelter in the puddles.

Gumti Wildlife Sanctuary is an excellent place for ecological sightseeing and attracts numerous visitors to explore the enchanting wilderness of the region. The place can be visited throughout the year. It is well connected with major cities of India. Agartala, located 100 kilometres away, is the nearest airport from where the sanctuary can be approached through roadways. Dharama Nagar and Kumarghat are the two nearest railway stations. The sanctuary can also be reached via roads by availing buses or cabs. Comfortable accommodation facilities are also available for the tourists.
