Gomti Ghat

The Gomti Ghat is a sacred place in the city of Dwarka.

Gomti Ghat, Dwarka, GujaratSituated at the mouth of the Gomti River, the Gomti Ghat is within the city of Dwarka in the West Indian state of Gujarat. Lining the ghat are several temples like the Dwarkadhish Temple, from where the pilgrims have to descend a flight of 56 stairs to reach the Gomti Ghat.

Significance of Gomti Ghat
With great religious and mythological significance, the Gomti Ghat is known to be one of the sacred ghats in Dwarka. There are legends which suggest that the Gomti River is the daughter of sage Vashishta and her water is powerful enough to purge one"s mortal sins. Thus, the devotees visit the ghat to take a holy dip in the sacred water especially in the Gomti Kund, which is the point of confluence of the Gomti River and the sea. It is also believed that at Gomti Kund, Lord Krishna had served sage Durvasa.

The Gomti Ghat attracts devotees and tourists alike from all over because of the various shrines located around the ghat such as the shrines of Lord Krishna, Lord Rama, Sudama and Lord Shiva.

The Dwarka railway station is the nearest at a mere distance of just 3.4 km while the Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel International Airport is about 451 km away from the Gomti Ghat.
