Godhaneswar temple is a famous shrine situated in the Indian state of Odisha. It is a very famous Shiva temple of Birmaharajpur subdivision of Subarnapur district of Odisha. This ancient Hindu temple is constructed on the bank of Mahanadi River in the Godhaneswar village. The word `Godhaneswar` means lord of cows. The temple, regarded as one of the most famous religious destinations of the town, is frequented by pilgrims with purpose both religious and divine.

History of Godhaneswar Temple
According to some research activities carried out by a notable professor, the western part of Odisha houses three Naga images in serpentine form while six Naga images have been recovered in entire Odisha. It is ascertained that Godhaneswar temple enshrines one of the stone Naga images in its premises. The temple also finds its mention as a renowned Shiva temple in the book `Glimpses of tribal and folk culture.

Godhaneswar temple celebrates several festivals that are participated by people of Gariamunda, Pitamahul, Durdura, Duleswar, Tebhapadar, Sangrampur, Amsarbhata, Subalaya, Etktal and other nearby villages. Among all, kartik purnima is the famous one when devotees come in large numbers to worship the lord Godhaneswar. These festivals narrate the interesting folklore and the rich cultural tradition and conventions of the village.
