Garhi Pukhta

Garhi Pukhta is a town in Muzaffarnagar district of Uttar Pradesh. This place is famous for gardens.

Garhi Pukhta, Uttar PradeshGarhi Pukhta is a town and a nagar panchayat in Shamli district in the Uttar Pradesh state of India. It is located 13 km from district Shamli in North West direction. The nearby villages are Audri, Pelkha, Purmaphi, Bheswal, Haripur, Razhar, Kherki and Hasanpur. This town has a good blend of different communities. It is also home to a settlement of the Baloch community. Politician Amir Alam Khan hails from this town. He has been selected as an M.L.A. and later on as an M.P also.

According to India census report 2001, Garhi Pukhta had a population of 12,104. The population of male was 53% and female was 47%. 21% of the population of this town was under 6 years of age. On the basis of the report of same year, it had an average literacy rate of 44%, lower than the national average of 59.5%. The male literacy rate was 52% and female was 36%. The official language of Garhi Pukhta is Hindi.

Economy of Garhi Pukhta
The main source of livelihood is agriculture so most of the people of this town are farmer. The main crops grown here are sugar cane, grain and rice. Apart from this, the town has a big bazaar, a post office, two banks and hospitals for both animals and human beings.

Educational Institutions in Garhi Pukhta
It has various schools to impart education to the students. Among all, the two well known schools are "Adarsh Bal Vidya Mandir" and "Bees Wala School" which is officially known as Lal bahadur Shastari Junior High School. Adarsh Bal Vidya Mandir is one of the oldest in this town and has given many good scholars. The town has a higher secondary college by the name of "Jawaharlal Nehru College". Recently, a B. Ed college has been set up in the town.

Garhi Pukhta is famous for baag or gardens. Gardens like Bada Baag, Naudha Baag and Alam Miyawala Baag are the beauty of this town. Festivals like Holi, Diwali and Eid are celebrated here with great pomp and grandeur. "Gugga ka mela" have its specific impotence in Garhi Pukhta.
