Telugu language is the mother tongue of the people of Yanam District. The inhabitants of Yanam are renowned for their generosity and rich cultural associations.

French and Telugu are said to be the official languages which are spoken in Yanam District. Apart from these languages, English is also widely used in this area. Though Telugu language is amongst the official language of this place, it is only employed only while conversing within the limits of the Telugu region. Therefore, Telugu is also known to be the official language of Puducherry, even though it is officially used in Yanam District. French was a very common language which was utilized here ever since the advent of the French during the period from 1673 till 1954. French language is also the official language of Puducherry and it was declared so by the Treaty of Cession, which had been signed by France and India on 28th May, 1956.
