Chintan Upadhyay is a reputed Indian painter who hails from Rajasthan and is well-versed in the various miniature paintings of this western Indian state. He practises different styles of abstract articulation in most of his paintings. It is believed that Chintan Upadhyay was deeply motivated by his father, in the field of paintings. Several paintings of Chintan Upadhyay reveal that he does not favour simplistic portrayal of concepts and ideas through his manifold sketches. He was born in the year 1972 in the Indian state of Rajasthan.
Early Life of Chintan Upadhyay
Chintan Upadhyay pursues Bachelor of Fine Arts in the field of Painting from the Maharaja Sayajirao University of Baroda during 1995. In the year 1997, he accomplished Masters of Fine Arts in Painting from Maharaja Sayajirao University of Baroda.
Art Style of Chintan Upadhyay
The artists Chintan Upadhyay employed an exclusive narrative form of painting in a majority of his artistic creations, after he realized that this particular style found favour in Baroda. This inspired him to practise paintings with the help of still life series. Phallic approach has been utilized in many of his art works. He had moved to Mumbai soon after completing his studies, during which period he commenced experimentation with caricature paintings. Painterly jokes and puns have motivated his paintings. According to his habit, he leaves certain paintings incomplete. Generally, after about four or five days, he moves on to a new subject and his paintings depict his enthusiasm about reality. He practises his paintings with the aide of many layers, different types and beautiful colours.
Awards of Chintan Upadhyay
During 2004 to 2005, Chintan Upadhyay was honoured with the Charles Wallace Foundation Award in United Kingdom for Residency in Bristol. He also received fame for his exhibitions held at various places like Australia, London, Paris, Budapest, Korea and Bangkok. In India, his exhibitions were organized in Kochi, Jaipur, New Delhi, Bangalore, Gujarat, Mumbai and Kolkata. Some paintings of Chintan describe that he does not like to term his works as a `signature`. Therefore, his art works always depict something new. His latest drawings involve collages. He has also created artistic replicas of toy-like snakes.
