Cheluvamba Mansion in Mysore is one of the most attractive palaces in Karnataka. Mysore is the hub of royal palaces. From the medieval times to the independence of India, Mysore was under the royal people. Cheluvamba Mansion is located in the northwest part of Mysore on the Mysore- Krishnaraja Sagar road.
Maharajas of Mysore built a number of ornate royal buildings during their reign. Most of these royal buildings were built for personal use. Most of the buildings were built during the time of British East India Company. Almost all these royal buildings are intact to this day.
Most of these royal buildings house a number of modern institutions of the city of Mysore. Cheluvamba Mansion is superb exemplar of the outstanding craftsmanship that existed in Mysore in those days. Cheluvamba Mansion is highly decorated and intricately carved. Cheluvamba Mansion has been preserved and the architecture of this mansion remains intact to this day. As a result of the joint efforts of the people of Mysore and the government of Karnataka, Cheluvamba Mansion is now acting as a Government Place.
One of the kings of the Wodeyar Dynasty, Krishnaraja Wodeyar IV built a mansion for each of his three daughters. Cheluvamba Mansion was built for the third princess of Mysore-Cheluvajammanni. Cheluvamba Mansion is named after the princess. There fore the Mansion is known as Cheluvamba Mansion.
Like all the other mansions in Mysore, Cheluvamba Mansion is spread over a huge area and is surrounded by gardens. Cheluvamba Mansion is beautifully built like the other buildings of the time of the Wodeyar Dynasty. All the rooms have splendid cravings and are a very good example of the architecture of Mysore rule of the time.
