He was born on 2nd November 1965 at the Talwar Nursing Home in New Delhi. He was born with an umbilical cord entangled around his neck. At the time of his birth a nurse said that it was by the blessings of Hanuman and that Khan would be a very lucky child. "I don`t know if I believe in it but it is the one thing I was told by my parents about my birth that I remember" says Shahrukh Khan remembering his childhood. His father Taj Mohammed Khan was from the famous warrior tribe called the tribe of Kuthay and his mother Lateef Fatima was the adopted daughter of Major General Shah Nawaz Khan of the Janjua Rajput clan who also served as a General in the Indian National Army of Subhash Chandra Bose. His father shifted from Pakistan to India before the partition of the Indian subcontinent. Shahrukh Khan also has a sister named Shehnaz and lovingly called Lalarukh. Khan was overall a brilliant student. He completed his schooling from St. Columba`s school in New Delhi. Shahrukh lived with his family in Rajinder Nagar in New Delhi.

As a child Khan was a naughty as well as very active child. He participated in sports, drama and academics. Shahrukh captained all teams in football, hockey and played cricket at zonal and national level. He was also the winner of the Sword of Honour which was an annual award bequeathed to the student who embodies most the spirit of the school. Following this he attended the Hans Raj College to earn an Honours Degree in Economics and after that he pursued Masters in Mass Communication from the Jamia Millia Islamia University. The reason he took up on Mass Communications (Film making) is because he loved the T.V commercials. For a short spell, Shahrukh ran a restaurant in Darya Ganj, New Delhi.

Shahrukh Khan in Theatre
Khan joined theatre with Barry John at Delhi`s theatre action group. Barry was born and raised in the United Kingdom and was part of the first wave of hippies who came to India in the late 1960s. Barry used to grow his hair long, wore kurtas, and listened to Pandit Ravi Shankar. Barry trained many actors who were senior to him both in age and experience, who later became successful on film and television. Some of his students included Shah Rukh, Benny Thomas and Divya Seth. Eventually, Shah Rukh enrolled at Hans Raj College for a degree in economics, but his real education took place in the evenings with TAG.

Shahrukh started out as an actor on small screen, in Dil Dariya directed by Lekh Tandon where almost went unrecognized because he played a sardarji. After his parents expired Shahrukh Khan moved from New Delhi to the land of dreams, Mumbai, in the year 1991. In the same year he tied the knot with Gauri in a Hindu wedding ceremony. Shahrukh Khan and Gauri Khan have two lovely children named as Aryan and Suhana. According to Shahrukh, while he solely believes in Allah, he also respects Hinduism, his wife`s religion. At home, his children follow both religions, with the Qur`an being situated next to the Hindu deities

The actual acting career of Shahrukh Khan started of way back in the year 1988 when he appeared for the first time in television series titled Fauji playing the role of Kutha. In the following year he went on to appear in other television serials such as the Circus, which reflected the life of the circus performers, their happiness and sorrows. In the same year he also appeared in a television film called In Which Annie Gives It Those Ones by Arundhati Roy although his role in this was a brief one. This film was based on the life at Delhi University.

Shahrukh Khan`s mentor in early phase of his career
The first person to suggest Shah Rukh to enter movies is Barry John. During the summers of 1985, the students of Lady Shri Ram College planned for a stage show. Shah Rukh had been working in a production of Annie Get Your Gun. Barry John was the founder and director of TAG, which was the leading theatre company of the town and was about to perform in the college`s show. Since it was a big production, male dancers were auditioned and elected from outside the company. After the show was done, Shah Rukh joined TAG. Barry was his first and only acting teacher.

Shah Rukh spent around five years learning acting in TAG. In 1990, Barry directed a play called Whose Life Is It Anyway? This play said about a paralyzed sculptor who fights for the right to die. The lead spends the majority duration of the play lying in bed. Shah Rukh wanted to play the sculptor, but Barry was not convinced that he could carry the role. Ultimately Rituraj played the sculptor and Shah Rukh did the cameo of a ward boy, who was cheerful, comic, a positive life force in the gloomy, death-ridden environment.

Barry was a smart and patient teacher. He did not dictate his students; rather he gently trained them to become real performers. Workshop was the method of teaching and his students would struggle with characters and situations. Barry never directed his students instead, he would question each expression and gesture to see the actor`s conception and check his ability to leave away the excess and act out the heart of the character. They trained extensively in the use of liberty and movement. Shahrukh Khan practiced extensively the mime exercises with masks. A few days just before the show time, Barry would give a few suggestions to polish up the final act. The interpretation of the character came from the student`s conscience and presentation. Shah Rukh acknowledges Barry throughout his interviews and said that he learned a vital lesson in these workshops.

This spontaneous actor took his acting classes much more seriously than the other students; which is perhaps why his most successful performances. Shah Rukh was an ardent movie buff and watched Hindi movies almost daily. His maternal aunt had sent them a VCR from London. Shah Rukh pressed his mother`s feet when the drama unfolded. Shah Rukh knew obscure details about ancient films and actors. Shah Rukh had more realistic viewpoint about short films, television, and advertising. Fatima was exceptionally supportive of Shah Rukh`s acting. He occasionally helped his family by running chores for the restaurant or doing some bookkeeping at times. His mother rarely interfered in Shah Rukh`s life. He often came home at 2 A.M. and asked for a cup of tea and then without a question or irritation, got up to make it. She believed that her son one day would become as big a star as Dilip Kumar. Fatima was Shah Rukh`s first and biggest fan.

Shahrukh Khan`s Debut Film
Khan moved to Mumbai from Delhi after his parents died in 1991. Shahrukh Khan made his debut in Bollywood movies in 1992 with the film Deewana in which he was paired opposite the glamorous damsel Divya Bharti, which turned out to be a box office hit and made a successful launch of his career in the Bollywood Film Industry. His marvellous performance in this film also made him achieve the Filmfare Best Debut Award. Since then Shahrukh has achieved great heights in his career. Even after being pitched against three generation of superstars he still continues to rule over the box office.

In the last two decade in Indian film industry, he has won eight Film Fare Best actor awards and has had significant box office success. Some of his films includes: Darr (1993), Baazigar (1993), Anjaam (1994), Dilwale Dulhania Le Jayenge (1995), Kuch Kuch Hota Hai (1998), Om Shanti om (2007), Chak De India (2007), Rab Ne Bana De Jodi, My Name Is Khan (2010) among others.

Shahrukh Khan`s Stint as Producer
He turned producer when he set up a production company called Dreamz Unlimited with Juhi Chawla and director Aziz Mirza in 1999. The first two films that he produced under his production company was Phhir Bhi Dil Hai Hindustani (2000) and Ashoka in (2001) which was a failure at the box office. However, in 2003 Shah Rukh opened another production company called Red Chillies Entertainment and produced Main Hoona Na (2003) under this banner which was a hit. Paheli (2005) and Kaal (2004) came one after another from the stable of Red Chillies Entertainment. Then came Om Shanti om (2007) which was the biggest hit delivered by his production house. Billu (2009) did an average collection at the box office but My Name is Khan that released in 2010 did stupendous business at the box office both in India and abroad. His latest flick Always Kabhi Kabhi (2011) proved to be a disaster at the box office. He is presently producing Ra.One and Don 2.

In 2008, Red Chillies Entertainment became the owner of the Kolkata Knight Riders in the BCCI-backed IPL cricket competition. Currently he is all set for his latest science fiction Ra.One starring opposite Kareena Kapoor. It is the much awaited flick which is due for release. In the year 2005, Nasreen Munni Kabir made two-part documentary films on Khan titled The Inner and Outer World of Shah Rukh Khan.
