Bibhutibhusan Wildlife Sanctuary, formerly known as Parmadan Forest, is one of the assets of Bengal. The sanctuary is located in North 24 Parganas district of West Bengal. Located on the banks of river Ichamati, the sanctuary covers an area of 0.68 square km.
History of Bibhutibhusan Wildlife Sanctuary
The sanctuary started its journey in 1964 when initially 14 chital were released in the forest. In 1980 it was named as "Parmadan" after getting declared as wildlife sanctuary. Later in 1995, it got its present name after the famous Bengali author Bibhutibhushan Bandyopadhyay.

Wildlife species are though limited in number with around 400 deers and 200 langurs but one gets an opportunity to see quite a few species of birds like Paradise Flycatcher, Crested Serpent Eagle, Great Tit, Parakeet, Blue Jay, Peacocks, Woodpeckers, Sankhacheel, Nilkhantha, Fultusi, etc. There are also a variety of trees including Shishu, Shimul, Tunt, Arjun and Shirish. Winter season brings some migratory birds in this region. It also has a children`s park and a small zoo.

The best time to visit the sanctuary is during winter season; and one should avoid visiting this place during monsoon season. Nearest airport to this sanctuary is Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose International Airport, Kolkata. Nearest railway station is Bongaon. Regular buses are also available by CSTC from Esplanade to Naldugri. Bibhutibhusan Sanctuary is 3 km from Naldugri.
