The ruins of the watch tower adjoining the water body, believed to be the favourite bear hunting place of the former kings of Bardhaman.

Naming of Bhalki Machan
Bhalki Machan has a vast area of land with gigantic lake amidst the lush green vegetation. While visiting Bhalki Machan, one can see the rajbari or the royal homes of the early zamindars. They used to build watchtowers at one side of the water body and hunted wild animals using bows, arrows and guns. This has given the place its name Bhalki Machan.

Watch Towers in Bhalki Machan
Bhalki Machan shows the tourist the remaining of the watch tower that was used by the local zamindars. It is also said that there was a far-reaching tunnel built beneath this watchtower. The ruins of a tower or machan overlook a small waterhole where the animals were shot by the royal heads of that era. The water hole of Bhalki Machan has been beautified by the gram panchayat of Ashugram with dahlias, chrysanthemums and deodars. The immaculate forest region of Bhalki Machan stretches beyond the borders of Birbhum District into the Santhal Parganas in Jharkhand.

Visiting Information
Bhalki Machan can be reached by road and railways. It can be travelled by car, then cross Bardhaman and drive about 30 km to locate the Mankor station. After crossing Mankor station, one need to reach Abhirampur and finally reaches Bhalki Machan.
