Bathery Maha Ganapathi Temple

Bathery Maha Ganapathi Temple (Bathery Mahaganapathi Temple) is one of the most well known ancient temples of Lord Ganesha. The shrine is located in Sulthan Bathery town in the district of Wayanad, Kerala. The region was formerly known as Ganapathipuram (Ganapathy Vattom) because of the Ganesha temple. The idol of Ganapati faces towards the east. Other gods or Upadevatas worshipped in the temple are Lord Shiva, Lord Nagaraja, Lord Ayyappan and Goddess Baghavathi.

A flag festival is organized by the Bathery Maha Ganapathi Temple in the Malayalam month of Makaram (January to February) for a period of 6 days. Several devotees of the Lord attend the festival. Various cultural shows and events, such as Chakyar Koothu and Ottanthullal are conducted by the temple. Moreover, the local tribal populace performs the Kalamezhuthu Pattu, also known as also called Dhulee Chithram or powder drawing, on the third and fourth days of the flag festival. The religious ritual of Abhishekam is also conducted with water to worship the Lord and receive abundant rain.

A grand procession is organized and the idol of Maha Ganapathi is taken out on the last day of the flag festival. A number of decorated elephants also join the procession. The Bathery Maha Ganapathi Temple is well connected with the main cities in Wayanad district.
