Barun Sobti is an Indian television actor who came into limelight with the role of Shravan Jaiswal in television fiction "Baat Hamari Pakki Hai". He further garnered recognition and fame for his portrayal of the protagonist character Arnav Singh Raizada in STAR Plus" romantic drama "Iss Pyaar Ko Kya Naam Doon?". He also appeared in the 2014 Bollywood film "Main Aur Mr. Riight", as Sukhi Singh.
Early Life and Education of Barun Sobti
Born on August 21, 1984 in Delhi, India, Barun Sobti completed his schooling at St. Mark"s School, New Delhi. He worked as an operation manager at Jindal Telecom for 7 years, before making his foray into the entertainment industry.
Career of Barun Sobti
Barun Sobti made his screen debut on television in the year 2009, with the spiritual show "Shraddha" on STAR Plus. He appeared as Swayam Khurana, but the show was abruptly stopped in few months for the low TRPs. In 2010, he made a cameo appearance as Raj Singh in STAR One"s popular medical drama series "Dill Mill Gayye". His first noticeable role was that of the comical guy Shravan Jaiswal, the lead in the TV fiction "Baat Hamari Pakki Hai". His work in the series earned him a nomination for the Best Actor at the Star Guild (Apsara) Awards 2011. He was seen in the show till 2011 and in the same year, he went on to star in STAR Plus" popular drama series "Iss Pyaar Ko Kya Naam Doon?", as the male lead Arnav Singh Raizada, a rude and suave businessman who passionately falls for a girl. His work in the daily soap earned him several television awards, mostly the couple awards shared along with the female lead Sanaya Irani and also the Best Actor (Popular category) at the Indian Television Academy Awards 2012. Sobti announced his “break†from the show in 2012, after which the producers ended it. In 2013, he was titled the 3rd Sexiest Asian Man by the United Kingdom magazine "Eastern Eye".
Barun Sobti made his debut in Bollywood in 2014, with the film "Main Aur Mr. Riight". Released in December 2014, the film saw him featuring as the lead character Sukhwinder Singh, alongside Shenaz Treasurywala. Bollywood Hungama News Network stated Barun as "probably the only saving grace of the film." In 2015, he acted in the short film titled "Dry Dreams", which focussed on water conservation. He has also appeared in the web version of the series "Iss Pyaar Ko Kya Naam Doon?", titled "Iss Pyaar Ko Kya Naam Doon?... Ek Jashn" aired on Hotstar.
Barun Sobti is slated to appear in John Abraham-produced film "Satra Ko Shaadi Hai", alongside Sapna Pabbi, set to release in 2016, along with the film "Tu Hai Mera Sunday", both in the post-production stage. He has also played cricket agent Ron Sen in the unreleased Bollywood film "22 Yards", directed by debutante Mitali Ghoshal. Barun hosted the Star Parivaar Awards 2012 and also "Star Diwali" on television the same year.
