The archaeological site of Daparvatiya or `Doporboteeya` has revealed a magnificent doorframe in the area of Tezpur which is considered as one of the finest instances of art works in Assam.

Numerable sculptures and other works of art have been unearthed from over 40 archaeological sites in Assam. Interesting creations of art belonging to the Middle Ages, which include motifs and sculptures of temples and palaces, have been excavated. Patterns adorning the walls of buildings like Joydoul, Rang Ghar and others exhibit excellent artwork.

Another renowned old tradition of the state of Assam is painting. Some outstanding paintings have been discovered from ancient manuscripts like the Gita Govinda and `Hastividyarnava` or A Treatise on Elephants` and `Chitra Bhagawata`. Assamese literature belonging to the medieval era has also spoken about `patuas` and `chitrakars`.
