Alangayam - Tamilnadu

Alangayam is a town located in Vellore district in Tamil Nadu. Mariamman temple and Kannika Parameshwari temple are the two important pilgrimage centres here.

Alangayam is located in Vellore district in the state of Tamil Nadu. It is a town situated at a distance of 18 kms from Vaniyambadi, widely known for the leather industry present here. The town is 10 kms away from the Vainu Bappu Observatory. Alangayam is enclosed by hills on all its sides and through Asanampet it is connected with Vellore District. It is again connected with Jamunamarathur through Polur.

Tourist Places in Alangayam
Alangayam has few beautiful tourist spots to visit. The exotic Yelagiri hill station is located here at a distance of about 30 kms. One can have a glimpse of the panoramic view of the town from the hills. Another small hill station, Javadi Hills is also situated close by. Asia`s second largest Observatory, the Vainu Bappu Observatory of the Indian Institute of Astrophysics is almost 11 kms away in Kavalur Village from the town. It serves as one of the major attractions for the tourists. The cascading waterfalls located near at Jalagamparai also enthral the heart of the tourists. It helps in accelerating the beauty of Alangayam. Visitors can also visit place known as Theertham while taking a trip to Vellore via Odugathur. The place houses a temple dedicated to Lord Muruga and a several small falls. One can also enjoy trekking in the midst of nature. The town is also famous among the tourists for its delicious biryani.

Educational Institutions in Alangayam
Alangayam has established many schools for providing education to the children here. Some of the important schools here are SFS Matric Hr Sec School, Vivekananda Matric School, Bharat Matriculation Hr. sec School, Govt. Boys Hr Sec School, Govt. Girls Hr Sec School, ADD Sec school and Dr. Radhakrishnan Teacher Training Institute.

Pilgrimage Centres in Alangayam
Alangayam has the Mariamman temple located in the heart of the town. Besides this the Kannika Parameshwari temple is also situated here. Every year the residents of the town celebrate a festival on a grand scale. The town also has two famous mosques, Masjid-e-Khadeem and Mecca Masjid.
