Abdul Jabbar

Abdul Jabbar is an illustrious Gowalparia and Bhaowaiah singer popularly known as `Bhaowaia Samrat` Abdul Jabbar. He was born in the year 1960 at the village of Bishkhowa in the district of Dhubri (Assam). He is regarded as the most popular singer in lower Assam as well as in North Bengal in the genre of `Goalparia folk-song`. Abdul Jabbar started showing his zeal towards music since childhood. After class IX due to impoverishment he could not continue in his formal education. He could just complete Class-IX from Ratiadaha High School.

Career of Abdul Jabbar
In 1980, Jabbar was selected to perform in a programme on All India Radio, Nainital (Uttar Pradesh). Consecutively, in the years 1984 and 1986 he has rendered for All India Radio, Guwahati and for Doordarshan respectively. In every corner of India, starting from Guwahati, Kohima, Nainital, Karimganj, and going up to Tripura, Patharkandhi, Digboi, Uttar Pradesh, Cooch-Behar, he has he has left his mark through uncountable musical shows. The Abbas Uddin Memorial Bhaowaiah Sanmilon conferred him the title `Bhaowayah Samrat` in the year 1994. It was organized by the Govt. of West Bengal.

Popular Songs of Abdul Jabbar
In 1981, Abdul Jabbar released his first audio-cassette "Kalar Bashi", in Cooch Behar. He savored fame with "Prantobashi", in the year 1984. Later, he released a number of albums to his credit like, "Adhorer Moina", "Shujan Bandhu", "Matir Manush", "Rashiya", "Dheura Bhauji", "Chhoto Deura", "Natun Shamaj", "Urani Kaitor", "Jiban Dotora", "Bhara Panir Nadhi-Brahmaputra", "Moishaler Shanai" which went on to become huge hits.

Honours and Achievements for Abdul Jabbar
Abdul Jabbar has bagged the honour of sharing stage with illustrious and legendary performing artists like Dr. Bhuben Hazarika, legendary Goalparia folk singer Late Padmashree Protima Pandey, Sandhya Menon, Hamida Sarkar and Allauddin Sarkar. He also earned the honour of performing with Protima Pandey Baruah a couple of times including her last cultural programme which was held at Bilashipara on the occasion of Rash Mela. Apart from being a proficient artist, Abdul Jabbar is a member of Indian Peoples" Theater Association (IPTA).
