The whole plot revolves around the character of Pammi (played by the vivavcious small screen actress Sangeeta Ghosh). She lives in London with her family and when she comes to India she founds her soul mate in Dev (played by Varun Badola). But in the earlier stages she is shown engaged to Rohan, a doctor who is well established and settled in London. Dev on the other hand goes to London to find his better half.
With the renowned filmmaker Yash Chopra and the Bollywood blockbuster 'Dilwale Dulhania Le Jayenge' started the trend of depicting the NRIs on the silver screen as well as small screen. Des Mein Nikla Hoga Chand is also a soap, which is directed towards that bearing. It was a weekly, which used to be aired on the Star Plus channel every Monday at about 9:00pm. It also mirrors the dilemmas of England born Indian youth whose parents have an extremely orthodox attitude towards life while they seem to have an extremely liberal outlook similar to that of the Western culture.
The serial produced and directed by the actor-turned-producer Aruna Irani was shot in both the Indian subcontinent as well as in United Kingdom centers around the emotions of Pritam Singh and his family who has left their hometown Punjab and was settled in London for the past 50 years. Both the nostalgia and the mores of their birthplace, its inhabitants and also the soil and life of the nation, constantly draws them to Punjab.
