The people of this region have been forest contractors for the last 150 years. Even today, most of the forest contractors in the Himalayan region are found from Lug Valley. Lug Valley is a remarkable place because this is the place where cables and trolleys were first employed by the British ForestDepartment to transport timber, which would be brought out of the forests of Himachal Pradesh in the early 20th century. This place is also popular for trekking.

The best way to reach Lug Valley is via Kullu district. Jogindernagar railway station and Kullu Manali airport are the nearest to Kullu. It is also well connected to Delhi by road.
