Use of Kamaranga as Medicines, Classification of MedicineKamaranga, also known as "Star Fruit", is a star shaped tropical fruit with sweet and sour flavour. The fruit is referred to as "Kamrakh" in Hindi and Gujarati, "Ambanamkaya" in Telugu, "Thambaratham" in Tamil, "Kaparakshi Hannu" in Kannada, "Chaturappuli" in Malayalam, "Karambal" in Marathi, "Kamranga" in Bengali and "Carambola" in some parts of the world. Its scientific name is Averrhoa Carambola.

Health Benefits of Kamaranga
The five-angled fruits of this plant contain an acid watery pulp, and are eaten raw as well as in curries. They enter into the composition of some cooling medicines for fever and other diseases. Averrhoa carambola is used a good source for fibre, Vitamin C, in Ayurveda to treat IBS, and disorders involving Kapha and Vata dosha such as cough and cold.
