Pema Khandu

Pema Khandu is the ninth Chief Minister of Arunachal Pradesh marking the culmination of fast-paced political developments in this northeastern State.

Pema Khandu, Chief Minister of Arunachal PradeshPema Khandu is an Indian politician from the state of Arunachal Pradesh. On 17th July 2016, he was sworn as the Chief Minister of Arunachal Pradesh thereby becoming the youngest to have become a Chief Minister in India, at the age of 37 years.

The Congress Legislature Party elected Pema Khandu, in place of Nabam Tuki, who was restored as Chief Minister. Since June 2011, he served on various ministers" level such as Minister of Tourism, Urban Development and Water Resources in the state government.

Personal Life of Pema Khandu
Pema Khandu is the eldest son of Chief Minister Dorjee Khandu, who died in a helicopter crash on May 20, 2011 near Luguthang in Tawang district bordering China.

Career of Pema Khandu
From assisting his father Dorjee Khandu in politics to working for social transformation, Pema Khandu has travelled a long way to sit in the coveted post of Chief Minister of Arunachal Pradesh.

Following his father"s death, Pema Khandu was included in the state government as Cabinet Minister of Water Resource Development and Tourism. He won an uncontested election to the Arunachal Pradesh Legislative Assembly from his father"s constituency "Mukto" on 30th June 2011. He stood as an Indian National Congress candidate.

Pema Khandu became a Secretary of the Arunachal Pradesh Congress Committee in 2005, and the President of the District Congress Committee in Tawang in 2010. He also became the Cabinet Minister for Rural Works Department and Tourism since November 21, 2011 in Nabam Tuki government and thereafter served the State as Cabinet Minister for Tourism, Civil Aviation and Art and Culture. Pema Khandu was re-inducted as the Urban Development Minister on June 1, 2014 in the Nabam Tuki government after the general election. He was elected Congress Legislature Party leader on 16 July 2016. Khandu was re-elected unopposed from "Mukto" in the 2014 Arunachal Pradesh Legislative Assembly election.
