Okhrey is a small picturesque village nestled in West Sikkim district. Mostly inhabited by Sherpa, Okhrey is a famous trekking destination.

It is mostly inhabited by Sherpa whose main occupation is farming and they mainly produce potatoes. It is one of the most popular trekking trails in Sikkim. This peaceful village is ideal for the nature admirers as it is surrounded by lush greenery. The unique feature of Okhrey is that it can be visited throughout the year. From October to January, one can admire the magnificent views of Mt. Kanchenjungha. From mid of March to mid of April, one can enjoy watching the Rhododendrons, orchids, primulas, aconytes, foxgloves and bluebells in full bloom. Bird watching can be enjoyed throughout the year.

Location of Okhrey
It is located in the West Sikkim district in the Sikkim state of India. It comes under Daramdin BAC Block Administrative Center. It is around 110 km away from the state capital Gangtok. The nearest town is Sombaria at a distance of around 20 km.

Trekking at Okhrey
The main highlight of Okhrey is trekking. It is famous for being the base for the famous Hilley - Varsey Rhododendron trek. While moving from Hilley to Okhrey, one will get to see the stunning views of Mt. Kanchenjungha range. In the vicinity, there is a serene village called Latitar. Tourists can relax here a bit before moving on to another spot called Ugen Thon Meon Ling monastery. This monastery is visited by trekkers passing through this way. The monastery runs a small school and is operated by the Tibetan missionaries. Another interesting walk is to Ribdi from the village of Okhrey. Travelers can also move further down to explore the forests of Rumbum, Coorkey and Rimbik.

Nearby attractions of Okrey
There are myriad nearby attractions of Okrey village like view point Jureli Dara, the Anden Olong Monastery, Kitan Falls, Dodak Helipad, Butterfly Shape Valley, Devi Falls, Gathang falls, the EPC church (one of the oldest churches of Sikkim) and a Lepcha Museum. All these spots are worth watching.

Connectivity to Okhrey
Okhrey is approximately 130 kilometers away from Siliguri and the route is via Jorethang. One can avail jeep service from Jorethang. The journey takes nearly an hour.
