Jorethang, SikkimJorethang is a major town in the Indian state of Sikkim. It serves as a major business centre of Sikkim. Located on the on the West Bengal border, 30 km from Darjeeling, Jorethang lies at an altitude of about 300 m above sea level and has a temperate climate. The town is situated on the way to Pelling from Darjeeling, Siliguri and Kalimpong. The route is well connected by buses and jeeps. Jorethang lies on the Rangeet River, a tributary of the Teesta River.

Jorethang provides a wide scope for trekking into the remote mountain villages of Sikkim. Here one can enjoy the scenic beauty of the peaks.

River rafting, which is also known as "White Water Adventure", represents another major attractions. Within distance of 100 miles, one can see the topographical variations with the rivers rising from the higher points and then dropping dramatically to lower levels.

In January, every year, the biggest and most awaited date in Jorethang`s calendar is the Jorethang Maghe Mela. It is a major event that attracts many local people as well as tourists from different places. The mela is said to have evolved from the agricultural fair that was held in Jorethang since 1955. Hundreds of stalls selling and exhibiting various products are put up for the huge number of people who visit the fair. The mela helps in the amalgamation of the local cultural extravaganza as well as modern day entertainment.
